Let’s just say Aurora was a much better mom this time around, lol. She was a great, and very exhausted mother. Now retired, she will live her days out at The Rattery, as my heart rat.
Lavender x Sparrow
These little fluffy beans have so much love to give. They all turned out to be Rex. Which is a marvel. Since both parents were technically Rex. Anyways, they have a lot of confidence but are still humble. Open to learning and affection, they are a great litter to be a part of.
Honey x Nosferatu
First time around, I only counted ten babies. Then, when it was time to start bonding and double check gender on day four, I found one more! So she had eleven; five girls and six boys.
We are waiting until some become hairless until we pick out our babies!
Raven Claws x Rodger
Raven Claws had her babies the 29th of April! There are 15 – 9 boys and 6 girls. We just keep having lots of boys here at the Rattery!
Peekaboo x Rodger
Peekaboo was and is an incredibly shy mother. I am not sure or not if she will be breeding again. Will reassess when her hormones have fully adjusted to normal.
Ophelia x Crow
Just like mom, Aurora, Ophelia herself had a larger litter herself. More than half the babies were Himalayan… funny… here’s dad:
Hedwig x Kona Bean
These two make an amazing pair, they are so silly with one another. It will hurt my heart a bit to remove Kona Bean soon, now that Hedwig is starting to show…

How To Pick Up A Rat
Rats take time and patience, as some can be very skittish. You need to understand that rats are empathic and can feel your energy. So, confidence is key.
• The Scoop Method
Try gently taking one or both hands and gently scooping up the rat. It’s as simple as that!
• The Toddler Hold
Pick up your rat from the front, under the arms, like picking up a child. Just give them butt support as soon as possible.
Just remember to show them a sense of security. It’s best to keep them close to your chest, and let them run up to your shoulder if that’s where they prefer to sit.
RECIPE FOR RAT TREATS: Starter Base with Quinoa Flower
Supplies:
- Bowl
- Whisk
- Probably a:
- Oven
- Silicone Mold
- Spoon
- Oven Mit
- Tray
So you wanna go rogue, aye? Making your own rat treats can be quite rewarding and fun! Use this batter recipe – then add your own rat-safe fruits or vegetables!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
For this batter, we are using quinoa flour. It is gluten free and includes a protein punch. It’s very easy to bake with, and you don’t need much.
- 1 Egg
- 4 TBS Quinoa Flour
- 1/4 Water
- 1/2 tsp. Olive Oil
- Dash of Baking Soda
- 1 tsp. Crushed Rosemary (natural and safe preservative)
[makes about 1/2 cup of batter]
Whisk all the ingredients together.
Try doubling the recipe!
Add fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, make sure they are rat safe. Here is a list of approved human foods.
You may need to adjust the recipe if you are adding fruits and veggies.
RAT SPOTLIGHTS
These cuties belong to Kenny, they are said to be working therapy animals for humans! And of course – they’re super cute and smart, too!
Checking in on Amber’s rats:
“Just a little update, the rats are doing awesome. We upgraded their cage in February, it seemed like they needed more room. Gumball is HUGE and Charles is very social and loves everyone and everyone loves him, even people that dont think they like rats. They are very loved and call my daughter is doing a great job raising them.”

“They immediately stole the spotlight in the whole house, becoming everyone’s favorite. They love to chill in their cozy tunnels, munching on apple, banana, or blueberry puffs or gobble up your homemade treats, though they’ll make a grand entrance for some yogurt.”
How Important is a Rats Tail
A rat’s tail serves several key functions:
• Temperature regulation — The tail acts like a radiator, releasing excess body heat through its blood vessels (similar to elephant ears).
• Balance — It helps rats stabilize themselves while climbing, jumping, or navigating narrow surfaces.
• Communication — Tail position and movement can signal mood; a rattling or puffed tail may indicate agitation.
• Sensory input — The tail is sensitive to touch and can help a rat sense its surroundings.
• Circulation support — Blood flow through the tail helps maintain overall cardiovascular balance during activity.
